Clawback

Artist Statement

Over the past two years, my current health insurance company sent me a series of letters in the mail, including one threatening to send me to debt collection, after the company decided that it should not have paid for thousands of dollars of medication I already consumed. This process is called a "clawback." These letters had quite confusing (one might say misleading) wording. I have used my medication supply to emphasize the insurance company's focus on money and the demands that I pay for the full cost of the medication. This is all I could see in the letters the first few times I read them, so I blacked out everything else.
